How To Learn Conscious Magick

A reader emailed me asking how to start doing magick consciously. He’d had some success doing magick in stressful or emotional situations, but couldn’t control it.

Here’s what I recommended:
1. Start a daily meditation. I like this meditation from Franz Bardon’s Initiation into Hermetics:

Relax and clear your thoughts. Then imagine an object you’re familiar with in as much detail as possible. This teaches you to focus your thoughts on a single idea, which will help with magick later.

2. Practice energy meditations to get used to controlling energy in your body. Click here for my energy meditations post.

It’s not a full program. I’m making a plan of study, but it won’t be out for a while.  Hopefully this helps you get started doing magick consciously, though.

Leave a comment if you have any questions. And if you try the exercises, leave a comment and let everyone know how it goes.

Doing Magick Consciously

Magick should be done consciously.

Most people do magick unconsciously. Visualizations or rituals tell the unconscious mind what to do and get the conscious mind out of the way. A.O. Spare’s runes, Golden Dawn rituals, energy working meditations, etc.

It’s great to see people doing magick. But unconscious magick is limited.

Doing magick consciously lets you see how magick works. Not the correspondences that ritual mages use, not the “belief is the tool” that chaos mages use, but the real mechanics underneath it all.

Seeing those mechanics lets you push the boundaries of magick.

I started conscious magick for curiosity. To understand what was happening. I’ve kept with it because focusing on the fundamentals is the fastest way to learn.
